Company History
For over twenty years, Uptime Institute Professional Services has guided and justified billions of dollars in data center investments for government agencies and businesses all over the world.
Uptime Institute Professional Services was founded in 1985 by Kenneth G. Brill as a consulting extension of his knowledge community, the Uptime Institute. In his experience talking to data center managers, Brill saw a need for a formalized process by which third-party, vendor-neutral experts could help data center owners and operators enhance their operations. Brill’s hunch proved to be right, and as demand for services grew, he brought on Pitt Turner, who had managed operations for Pacific Bell for over twenty years, as a Principal of the company. Soon after, Hank Seader joined as a consultant with substantial experience managing critical facilities. Based on their combined experience in the field, Brill, Turner, and Seader developed the Institute’s Tier Classification System, now a de facto industry standard for predicting site reliability. Vince Renaud joined the company as an experienced critical facilities manager and along with the original Tiers author team, collaborated on the Operational Sustainability concept of site reliability as an enhancement to Tier.
Since then, with the addition of Terry Altom, the company has grown to a team of five Principal-level consultants, all with extensive operations experience, in addition to the administrative, project management, and business development staff who guide a growing portfolio of clients. |
